Stephenson Harwood LLP advises Chailease on superyacht financing for Turkish client

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has advised Chailease International Financial Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of one of Asia’s leading financial services groups, on the financing of a superyacht acquisition by a Turkish-based client.

This transaction reflects Chailease’s growing international expansion in premium asset-backed lending beyond Asia and into the global yachting sector.

The financing facility was secured against the yacht and associated assets. The Stephenson Harwood team advised on the drafting and negotiation of finance and security documentation governed by English and Marshall Islands law, and coordinated the closing and the multi-jurisdictional elements of the transaction to ensure legal and regulatory alignment.

“Increasingly, the yachting industry requires cross-border legal support that is both commercially sound and technically precise,” said Maritime, Trade and Offshore Partner Chris Vartzis, Head of Greece Maritime Finance and a member of the firm’s global Superyacht team. "This transaction required us to navigate multiple complex legal challenges, including contractual, tax, and customs issues, drawing on our team's expertise and collaborative efforts to secure a successful outcome for the client. The Superyacht team remains at the forefront of high-profile transactions and this deal highlights that we are one of the few firms with international reach capable of managing complicated transactions for global financial institutions."

The team was led by Chris Vartzis, Maritime, Trade and Offshore Partner and Head of Greece Maritime Finance, with support from Partner Ezio Dal Maso and Associates Nefeli Christodoulou-Founta and Thanassis Mitrakas.
